🍯Ingredients
generous amount of chili pepper flakes.
salt and pepper
¼ cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
2-3 tablespoons Fingerlakes Honey Company honey
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon corn starch
½ cup sesame seeds
4 (6 ounce) tuna steaks, 1/2 to 3/4" thick, sushi/sashimi grade
1 tablespoon olive oil
wasabi paste, optional garnish (can be mixed in sauce as well)
🥣Directions
Season tuna steaks on both sides with salt and pepper.
Toast sesame seeds. Spread sesame seeds and chili peppper flakes (use more or less depending on spiciness) out on a plate, set aside
Stir together soy sauce, sesame oil, mirin, and honey in a small bowl.
Pour half into a separate small pan. Stir in rice wine vinegar, whisk in 1/2 tsp corn starch, and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat, simmering, until it thickens and set it aside as a dipping sauce.
Coat tuna steaks with remaining soy sauce mixture
Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over high heat until very hot. Place steaks in the pan; sear for about 30-40 seconds on each side.
Press seared steaks into sesame seeds and pepper mixture on both sides to coat.
Serve with dipping sauce and wasabi paste.
