THANK YOU FOR BEEING A FRIEND TO BEES STICKER
BEE A FRIEND TO BEES

Friendship comes in all shapes, sizes, and sometimes wings! Today on International Day of Friendship, we’re celebrating the powerful connections that make life richer—not just between people, but between humans and the humble honey bee.

These tiny friends are tireless workers, community-minded, and wildly generous with their gifts. They pollinate one-third of the food we eat, make our world bloom, and ask for so little in return. If that’s not the definition of a good friend, we don’t know what is.

So today, we invite you to bee a better friend to the bees—with small, sweet actions that add up to a big impact. Grab you honey-sweetened cinnamon coffee, relax on your porch swing, and enjoy this quick read on how to be a better friend.

ADOPT A BEE OR HIVE
ADOPT A BEE OR HIVE

🐝 1. Adopt a Bee or Hive: Start a Sweet Friendship

Through our Adopt-a-Bee and Adopt-a-Hive programs, you can become part of the hive in the most meaningful way. Your adoption helps us care for our bees, expand pollinator-friendly habitats, and continue our natural beekeeping practices right here in the Finger Lakes.

Whether it’s for yourself or a gift for a fellow nature lover, it’s the kind of friendship that buzzes with purpose.

🌼 2. Feed and Water Your Bee Friends

Just like any good friend, bees appreciate snacks and a drink.

  • Plant bee-friendly flowers:

Choose blooms like lavender, thyme, clover, and dandelions, and plant them in succession throughout the growing season to ensure bees have a steady buffet of nectar and pollen.

  • Offer fresh water:

Place a shallow dish of water outside with pebbles or marbles so bees can safely land and sip. Think of it as a mini bee spa.

Even a windowsill or balcony garden can become a haven for our pollinator pals!

🚫 3. Avoid Harmful Practices

Being a friend means protecting your buddies. For bees, that means:

  • Say no to pesticides.

especially near flowers where bees forage. Opt for natural pest control methods instead.

  • Support responsible beekeeping.

If you find a wild hive or swarm, contact a beekeeper instead of calling pest control.

  • Observe, don’t disturb.

Bees are gentle unless provoked. Give hives space and let them do their thing.

📣 4. Educate & Advocate

Use your voice to help the bees!

  • Share the buzz.

Talk to friends and family about the importance of pollinators.

  • Sign up for a Bee Talk.

Learn all about honey bees and how to protect them.

  • Support conservation efforts.

Volunteer, donate, or spread awareness for groups working to save the bees.

  • Support local beekeepers (like us!)

by buying raw honey, beeswax goods, and other bee-based products.

🐔 5. Extra Sweet Ideas

Want to go above and beyond? Consider keeping chickens! These quirky backyard buddies can help reduce pests naturally around your hives. Just be sure they don’t disturb your bee friends while they’re patrolling for bugs.

💛 Support Our Beesness

Every time you shop with us, attend a bee talk, or share a post, you’re part of something bigger. You’re helping us care for the hives, teach the next generation about pollinators, and create honeyed products that give back to the bees who make it all possible.

So this International Day of Friendship, let's honor the bonds that matter most: between friends, between neighbors, and between humans and honey bees.

Adopt a bee. Plant a flower. Share the buzz. Bee a friend and the bees will thank you with every bloom. Comment below and tell us some way syou are a "Friend to Bees". We'd love to hear your ideas.
